Onions, anyone?

No more onions.  Currently, the island is out of onions.  No onions to be found.  Not a one.  Earlier in the year, it was cream.  And before that, it was canned tuna.  If the boat doesn’t arrive for some reason, we are out of luck — not so patiently waiting for the next shipment.

Have you ever turned on your faucet and no water came out?  Have you ever flipped a light switch and nothing happened?  Have you ever arrived at the store to grab a box of your favorite cereal and it’s nowhere to be found?  Probably not.  It’s not something we think about in America.  It never crossed my mind that I couldn’t take a shower when I wanted to, or I couldn’t indulge in my favorite foods, day or night.

I have learned when you find something you like here, you better buy a lot of it.  You may never see it again.  One day you see an aisle full of it, and a few days later, it disappears never to be seen again.  Just another quirk of living in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean…

It doesn’t look like you need any onions – that fish looks delish!
